This weekend, World Wrestling Entertainment held its Royal Rumble PPV from Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. Highlights from the annual free-for-all included a shocking return by a beloved legend, a dominant performance from giant stack of meat Brock Lesnar, and this, another neat bit of cosplay from Zelina Vega.

Vega, (in what might be the greatest moment in pro-wrestling history since The Shockmaster fell through a wall), joined the Royal Rumble match at number 25, making her entrance decked out in beautiful garb stylised after Mortal Kombat’s evil empress, Queen Sindel. Proudly walking the aisle in a robe reminiscent of Sindel’s MK 11 look, Vega dropped the finery to reveal ring gear more reminiscent of the queen’s early appearances in the gory fighting game series.

Unfortunately for Vega, this gear did not equip the star with the power of flight and, despite her best efforts, she was choked out and dumped ringside by former two-time NXT Champion Shayna Baszler, during a wild rampage that resulted in seven other eliminations.

This isn’t, of course, Vega’s first rodeo in the cosplay realm. At the 2019 Royal Rumble, Zelina entered the match wearing the garb of her Street Fighter namesake. That same month, Vega also appeared at the Mortal Kombat 11 reveal event, this time dressed as Edenian assassin Jade. And previously Vega, alongside her charge Andrade “Cien” Almas, dressed as Pokemon’s Team Rocket for a WWE promotional shoot.

I love that wrestlers are just massive nerds now. It’s the best timeline.

The 2020 Royal Rumble is available to watch now on the WWE Network.
