Writers of Saw working on God of War screenplay

Hollywood isn’t done abusing videogames yet, it seems. The long dormant God of War film adaptation is getting renewed thanks to Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, writers of the four latest Saw films and a draft for Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming epic Pacific Rim. When I think God of War, I think shallow characters, stupidity, and brutality, so maybe these two guys are the perfect fit, all things considered.

Things aren’t so bad, however. While Melton and Dunstan will be writing the screenplay, it will be based off David Self’s initial draft. Self wrote the excellent Road to Perdition adaptation, so that gives me some hope. Then again, I don’t know how you can justify the series’ butchering of Greek mythology at the cinema. I’m willing to shrug off a lot of the story because it drives forward the game’s action, but a film adaption will be under much more scrutiny, at least from me.

I can’t wait to relive such great moments such as stabbing things in the eye and throwing unarmed civilians to their death at the theater. What classic God of War moments have you melting your butter and popping your corns at the above news?
