On first view, the above video might strike you as one of the most inane, insane, and bizarre-ane concepts ever committed to a series of 1s and 0s, but upon further reflection, I think you have to agree: this idea is at once both strikingly original and surprisingly ingenious in an MMO genre that, after less than a decade in existence, has grown exceedingly stale.
Allow me to a paint a picture that borrows heavily from Jack London, a Discovery Channel special I watched a month ago, and every bit of rum still swirling through my veins:
The moon is large, and the night is young. You are a young male with a penchant for only the finest bitches, and tonight is going to be the crowning moment of a coup d’état you have been planning for months. The elder males — led by an aging white wolf who the pack had taken to calling “Patches” — had just returned from a successful elk hunt, and now, bellies filled with warm blood and flesh, they slumber quietly by a nearby brook.
Your footsteps masked by the innate noises of the running water, you approach Patches’ prone form with naught but murder on your tiny, lupine mind. Drawing upon every Greek tragedy you might have read in high school had you not actually been a wolf, you slowly slide a dagger from the folds of your robe … that you were wearing for some reason …
Will your plot ultimately lead to a new golden age for the pack, or will you be slain under the mighty paw of Lord Patches? Only you can discover the truth.
Wolf Quest. December 2007.
Sadly, this game isn’t anything like that. Sorry to get your hopes up.
