I was once a massive fan of Attack on Titan. It was once ‘that’ show you had to see as an anime fan in the early 2010s. But it’s the 2020s now, and I think I’m ready for Attack on Titan‘s imminent conclusion.
Attack on Titan: The “Final” Season started airing on December 7, 2020, alongside the final arc of the manga. It continued into 2021, then 2022, then March of 2023, and it’s only just now ending this month, in November of 2023. At the time of the manga’s conclusion, the ending felt almost out of place when compared with the rest of the series. Fans across the internet were left with this empty feeling, and not the kind you normally get at the ending of a really good anime or manga.
So, as the anime nears its long-awaited conclusion, the same fans have been curious if MAPPA, the anime production studio that inherited Attack on Titan from Wit Studio, will be changing the ending in any way based on audience feedback.
Will Attack on Titan’s anime end differently?
Ultimately, we can’t say whether the anime ending will have any major changes compared to the manga ending. Which, granted, kind of makes sense. You typically don’t see endings officially spoiled before the respective show/movie/game ends. Some speculate that it may change since the manga ending was so contentious, but we can’t officially say one way or the other.
There are, of course, bound to be some differences simply on the basis of adaptation. No anime is ever 100% like its source material. But otherwise, we’re only going to find out how the anime will end by watching it for ourselves.
Attack on Titan: The Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 2 is set to air on Sunday, November 5 at 3 a.m. PST / 6:00 a.m. EST.
