Play Pikmin 4 with friends
Pikmin fans can look forward to the latest entry in the series dropping this month. Like past titles, players will use the adorable Pikmin to solve puzzles and finally return home. Though it may be a fun game to play alone, it also has the potential to be a fantastic multiplayer game. Pikmin 4 does have co-op elements, but the way they have been implemented may cause some disappointment.
Co-op and multiplayer elements in Pikmin 4
In Pikmin 4‘s story mode, you can create and name your own character. You’re tasked with finding and rescuing a lost crew. To do this, you can take control of the tiny Pikmin and solve puzzles. In this entry, Oatchi the dog joins in on the adventure.
As the Pikmin 4 trailer reveals, the story mode can be played alone or with a second player via couch co-op. In co-op mode, the second player makes use of the Pebble Pitcher which allows them to hurl stones. This is useful for collecting Pikmin and attacking foes. Although the mode is greatly appreciated, it is disappointing that the game will lack a fully-fledged two-player story campaign.
Fortunately, the upcoming game will also include Dandori Battles. In this mode, players race to see who can collect the most items in a given time period. Multiplayer Dandori Battles are playable outside of story mode, and you can either play cooperatively (against a CPU) or against other players offline.
It appears that Pikmin 4 will be introducing plenty of new features to the series. In addition to the new battle mode, there will also be new Pikmin introduced, including the Glow Pikmin. The Pikmin 4 demo is available for newcomers who want a taste of what the franchise is about.
