NBA 2K25 goes live worldwide on September 6th, and there are some technical changes to expect this time.
For starters, developers Visual Concepts are finally going to release the next-gen version on PC (a much-welcome change for PC players). This again raises the question about how crossplay and cross-progression will work in this year’s game.
Will NBA 2K25 have crossplay?
In NBA 2K24, crossplay was only available on Xbox Series XlS and the PS5 consoles. Players on these consoles could play with and against each other on a unified server. In NBA 2K25, crossplay will be limited to the same consoles once again. While PCs might be getting next-gen features, they will have different servers when it comes to matchmaking.
Old-gen users of the Xbox One and PS4 will not be able to enjoy crossplay. It remains to be seen if PC might get crossplay support later in the year. Additionally, Nintendo Switch users won’t have crossplay either, being an old-gen system.
Will NBA 2K25 have cross-progression?
While cross-progression support will be available, it will be extremely limited in scope. The feature will be available across systems of the same family. In simpler words, a PS4 player will be able to carry over their in-game progression to PS5 and vice versa. The same can be done by an Xbox One player if they want to switch to Xbox Series X or Series S consoles.
Naturally, there will be no cross-progression support for those playing on either the Nintendo Switch or on PC. Those versions will have their separate game servers. While you could use the same 2K account to play on consoles and PC, the progress on both platforms will be different.
While PC users will still have certain limitations compared to those on PS5 and Xbox Series XlS, the next-gen upgrade was much required. Thanks to the changes, PC players will be able to enjoy features like ProPLAY, player builder, new badges, and more across all game modes.
