Grand Theft Auto VI was finally officially revealed with an excellent trailer on December 4. However, despite the trailer pleasing GTA fans the world over, there was no mention of which platforms the game will be released on. So what’s the deal?
Is GTA 6 on PC and consoles?
Although the trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI didn’t mention any platforms, a press release from publisher Take-Two did. Of course, it’s no surprise that Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but Take-Two specifically left out the PC. So, GTA 6 will not be on PC at launch.
That means PC fans, including myself, will be left out in the cold. If we want to play GTA 6, we’ll need to do so on either a current gen Xbox or PlayStation. At least, that’s the situation as it stands.
There’s no confirmation, but Rockstar Games could do the same thing that they did with the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. It was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018. However, one year later, in November 2019, Red Dead Redemption 2 was released on PC. GTA V also had a gap between its console and PC releases.
Considering the massive fan base that Grand Theft Auto V has on PC, it’s doubtful that Rockstar is willing to ignore that market. The company may just be hoping that gamers who buy it on console in 2025 are willing to double dip if Grand Theft Auto VI releases on PC a year later in 2026.
So, we’re perhaps in for an extra year of waiting if we don’t double dip. But if the quality of Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC is anything to go by, it will very much be worth the wait.
