It’s been known for a long time that Disney Dreamlight intended to be a free-to-play release at launch. However, the situation has changed. Read out to find out everything you need to know.
Is Disney Dreamlight Valley free-to-play canceled?
Publisher Gameloft has released many free-to-play titles, including the Asphalt series and Disney Speedstorm. However, there won’t be a Disney Dreamlight Valley free-to-play version. The game’s instead adopting a paid model at least “for the foreseeable future.”
“As we look ahead to the official launch, with the learnings we’ve gained from Early Access, we’ve made the decision to remain a paid game for the foreseeable future,” said Gameloft in a blog post. “This means we will not make the transition to be a free-to-play game when we leave Early Access on December 5th.”
Gameloft promises that they’re continually bringing “free content updates that add new characters, realms, clothing, furniture, and more surprises to [our] Valley[s],” despite this change. A free Disney Dreamlight Valley version has been spoken about for a long time. It’s a strange move on Gameloft’s part. Perhaps the micro-transactions in the game’s early access period didn’t sell well.
Can you play this game on Xbox Game Pass?
Thankfully, if you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you can access Disney Dreamlight Valley on Microsoft’s subscription service. You can also get any of the Founder’s editions until the game’s launch on December 5.
Unfortunately, if you want to buy a physical copy of the Switch version, it only includes a download code, no cart.
