There are a few!
So Tactics Ogre: Reborn is out on multiple platforms, including Switch. Thankfully, some folks (like solwhitehorn on Reddit) have tinkered around with it, and found that it has mouse and keyboard support: yep, on the Nintendo Switch!
That got me thinking: it would be great to have a list!
Here are all of the Nintendo Switch games with mouse and keyboard support
- Tactics Ogre: Reborn
- Doom 1 and 2
- FUZE4
- Hypnospace Outlaw
- Factorio
- Monster Hunter Rise (text input only)
- Game Builder Garage
- Quake
- Undertale
- Wargroove
- The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker (keyboard only)
Mouse and keyboard support has been a thing for generations of consoles now, and the most notable games I can think of that helped usher it into the mainstream spotlight were Phantasy Star Online for Xbox, and Shadowrun 2007 (the shooter). The latter was a really interesting experiment that pitted PC and Xbox players together via cross-play, ages before it became a major thing in the console market.
In any case, one of my favorite things about the Switch is the ability to swap to different control schemes. The Wii in particular was very inflexible, with many games forcing a singular type of control; and while the Wii U was better with a lot of titles allowing for Pro Controller support, the Switch has improved things even further.
I haven’t been this inspired to bust out a keyboard on a console (beyond Final Fantasy XIV chat) since the Dreamcast era!
How to use keyboard and mouse on the Nintendo Switch
To utilize a keyboard and mouse on the Nintendo Switch, all you need to do is physically connect it to the Switch dock via USB. Note that Bluetooth mice and keyboards will have detection issues on said dock: so you may want to get a converter or small USB hub if you lack the ability to easily plug your devices in.
