Where to find the Merrymore hidden treasure chest in Super Mario RPG

Don't merry no more.

As has been tradition since the days of Shakespeare, a classical comedy must contain a wedding of some kind. And a slightly lesser-known tradition is that all wedding venues like Merrymore in Super Mario RPG must have at least one hidden treasure box to uncover. I think that was in Othello.

Anyway, if you’re here, that means you want to know where the hidden treasure chest in Merrymore is. Fortunately, this one’s pretty easy to find once you know where to look. Go to the Merrymore Hotel and walk up the stairs immediately to your right. Head into the door against the wall to enter the normal inn room. You shouldn’t need to actually spend the night here in the remake, but if for some reason you can’t walk in, you can spend those 10 coins instead.

Once in the room, jump on the cabinet in the left corner of the room. Jump straight up here, and you’ll reveal a hidden chest. This will contain a Frog Coin, and with that, you will have uncovered Merrymore’s sole secret. Remember to use your Frog Coin wisely, since you likely haven’t seen everything you can do with this elusive currency quite yet. Do you think Nick Bottom would have turned into a donkey in A Midsummer Night’s Dream if he had a Frog Coin on him? I should probably stop insisting that Shakespeare’s work is actually full of Super Mario RPG references.
