World of Warcraft: The War Within is the 10th expansion for World of Warcraft. Introduced at BlizzCon 2023, the expansion is the first of three to be part of the Worldsoul Saga which is taking WoW into the next year years of content. Most of the details we have so far are just what we have learned from BlizzCon. The War Within expansion will release in 2024.
What is the story in World of Warcraft: The War Within?
In the cinematic trailer, Anduin and Thrall find themselves drawn together by a radiant vision emanating from within the heart of the world. As the camera pans out, we see the giant Sword of Sargeras that the titan Sargeras stabbed into Silithus. Apparently, the location was intentional, as Sargeras intended to hit someone or something.
Deep beneath the surface of Azeroth, an ancient Nerubian civilization has begun its rise to power, with the assistance of Xal’atath, Harbinger of the Void who made an appearance in the Legion expansion. Players tasked with enlisting the help of the Earthen, a new playable allied race, as they make their way deep under Azeroth to discover an all new world that has existed for centuries.
What gameplay features are coming in World of Warcraft: The War Within?
No new class is coming in The War Within, but players will have access to a new allied race called The Earthen. The Earthen is playable for both Horde and Alliance players. Four new zones are coming in The War Within as well:
- Isle of Dorn — A surface level zone with fertile soil and plat life. The isle’s central city will be the capital for players in this expansion.
- Ringing Deeps — The industrial underground cavern full of lava-flowing foundries and furnaces. Overseen by the Machine Speakers, Kobolds have taken over much of the Ringing Deeps, building a city of their own.
- Hallowfall — A bright and lush underground zone shining bright from the light of an enormous crystal that has seen its light changing as of recent. Fading without warning, plunging the area into darkness.
- Azkahet — In the deepest depths of Azeroth is the heart of the Nerubian empire, the home to forgotten scavengers.
There will be eight new dungeons in The War Within, with four accessible while leveling and the final four coming at max level:
- The Rookery
- The Stonevault
- Priory of the Sacred Flame
- CIty of Threads
- Cinderbrew Meadery
- Darkflame Cleft
- The Dawnbreaker
- Old City
The first raid of The War Within will be Nerub’ar Palace, an eight-boss Nerubian Empire raid in Azj’kahet.
We also know two new features are coming to World of Warcraft: The War Within: Delves, and Warbands.
Delves are a new form of evergreen content that allows 1-4 players to complete outdoor vaults including seasonal content to earn loot and add to their weekly Great Vault.
Warbands add account-wide progression adding shared renown, bank, achievements, transmog and more across all your characters regardless of faction.
This is everything we know about World of Warcraft: The War Within so far.
