What exactly is The Elder Scrolls: Castles?

The Elder Scrolls: Castles is a simulation mobile game from Bethesda Game Studios where players build their own Castles and create their own dynasties. According to its listing on the Google Play Store, it’s currently in Early Access. At the time of this post, it appears the simulation management game is only available on Android devices, and not on iOS. This has become pretty standard for Android titles, as it’s easier to push out updates along the way. So now that we know it exists, what is The Elder Scrolls: Castles?

What sort of gameplay is in The Elder Scrolls: Castles?

It appears The Elder Scrolls: Castles will play similarly to Fallout Shelter. Players will build up their own castles and dynasties as they oversee their subjects over the years. Families will grow and new rulers will take the throne. However, even though it has simulation features similar to Fallout Shelter, it does appear to have its differences as well. In my brief playtime so far, it’s certainly not a clone of Fallout Shelter, to say the least.

The story of each dynasty will take place over generations. Each real-life day will cover an entire year in The Elder Scrolls: Castles. Players have to train their subjects, name their heirs, and maintain order to help their castle and kingdom flourish.

Along the way you can customize your castle, adding rooms, placing decorations, constructing monuments, and more. Also, in traditional simulation strategy fashion, you can assign your subjects to various workstations to increase the efficiency of your castle.

However, running a castle is not just about management in the mobile game. Players can create heroes, equip them with epic gear, and send them to battle against classic Elder Scrolls foes. Success will grant you valuable loot to keep your castle prospering.

When does The Elder Scrolls: Castles release?

Bethesda stealthily released The Elder Scrolls: Castles on Android devices on September 28. Beforehand, there was not even an announcement that the title was in existence or being developed.

As of now, there does not appear to be an iOS version. The process of adding games to the iOS store is a bit more intricate than the Google Play Store, so it’s possible it just hasn’t finished being added yet.

No other platforms have been confirmed to be in development as of September 28.
