Ahead of Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 Season 4, Call of Duty’s anti-cheat team addressed boosting concerns in Ranked Play, but players wanted more than a slap on the wrist for wrongdoers.
One day before Season 4 started, Call of Duty’s anti-cheat team confirmed that players who participated in any form of boosting behavior will have their Skill Rating reset and will be removed from the leaderboard. Also, all accounts that boosted their progression in Ranked Play will be permanently restricted from accessing the game modes in Modern Warfare 3 or Warzone.
Before Season 3, the anti-cheat team also reset SR and removed cheaters from the leaderboard. Boosting is an issue across all of Call of Duty, but is especially a problem in Warzone. Cheaters will either pay for a service that puts them in a lobby with players that don’t shoot back, or large groups will coordinate lobbies where players will earn Skill Rating for getting free kills on enemies in a Ranked Play match. As a result, several of these cheaters have earned top leaderboard spots. At the end of every season, Ranked Play gives out awards based on how high you finish in a given season.
Luckily, the anti-cheat team has been able to weed out any wrongdoers before those awards go unfairly into undeserving hands, but a segment of the player base wants further action. Since these cheaters are only banned in Ranked Play modes, that means its still possible for them to load into a normal Warzone or Modern Warfare 3 match.
“Good. But why not ban them from the game completely?” Warzone Loadout asked. “I’m personally all for a very strict anti cheating policy.”
Other users questioned why the team would wait until the end of the season before taking action. If players were allowed to boost all season, this could have had a direct impact on other competitors attempting to earn Skill Rating properly. “My question is why wait so long,” a frustrated commenter argued.
For now, Warzone players will have to live with this slap on the wrist, and rest comfortably knowing that the anti-cheat team is aggressively restricting accounts every season.
