Announce ALL the things, just not Half-Life 3
Valve just announced a number of new products for 2015 along with some pricing details. (Leave it to Valve to reveal hardware with dates and pricing at the same time.) This year, the company will release: Steam Link, Steam Machines, a virtual reality headset, and Source 2.
Steam Link is a game-streaming device that allows you to play your Steam library from your PC on any screen in the house at “1080p and 60Hz with low latency.” It’s launching alongside the Steam Controller in November; both are priced at $49.99.
Steam Machines are also launching this November and will start around the same price as home consoles. Alienware and Falcon Northwest are currently showing off Steam Machines at the Game Developers Conference, but at least a dozen other partners will be selling Steam Machines.
After the news of Unreal Engine 4 and Unity 5 going free, it comes as no shocker that Valve announced the upcoming Source 2 engine will be free to “content developers.”
TL;DR: A bunch of things were announced, none of which were Half-Life 3. I wonder how Valve’s physics talk at 3pm on 3/3 went?
