Valve explains the lack of Diretide in Dota 2

Also, Diretide is still coming!

A lot of Dota 2 players have lamented the lack of a Diretide event this year. For those unaware, last year at Halloween time, Valve released and event called Diretide, which saw players collecting candy pieces from around the map and depositing them into their candy buckets. However, Roshan would roam around the map, targeting random heroes until he got some candy himself. It was a great distraction from the traditional game which required a good amount of strategy to see success (also gave a lot of items).

This year, however, Halloween came and went with no mention of a new Diretide. People naturally overreacted, complaining everywhere they could and even review-bombin the Dota 2 Metacritic page. Well, Valve has finally responded as to the lack of an event in a new blog post.

First of all, Diretide is still coming, just a tad late. Evidently, Valve has been working on a “huge update” for a while and they pushed Diretide aside in order to make progress on this update. The “huge update” is not far off now according to the blog post, and now Diretide is coming with it. Could this update bring Legion Commander and Ember Spirit? Maybe some sort of make-your-own custom game editor? I can’t wait to find out!
