You might not be ready, but here it comes: the first of the playable villain DLC for Far Cry 6 is out on November 16, and Ubisoft is starting with the series’ crowd-favorite adversary in Vaas: Insanity. Unlike the free content drops, this is a part of Far Cry 6‘s paid Season Pass.

You might’ve seen this pretty vague Season Pass trailer that shows Vaas, Pagan Min, and Joseph Seed returning from Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, and Far Cry 5, respectively — but what is the actual setup here? What’s the gameplay like? Ubisoft is still being a little cagey.

Along with the release date for Vaas: Insanity, Ubisoft included this summary of what it’ll be like to step into the talkative antagonist’s shoes: “Players will embody Vaas, the iconic villain from Far Cry 3 played by Michael Mando (Better Call Saul), who is reprising his role in a brand-new experience inspired by the roguelite genre. Starting with nothing more than a pistol to defend themselves, players will need to find new weapons and unlock power-ups to become stronger and progress deeper into the depths of Vaas’ psyche.”

I’m curious how far they’ll go with “action and storytelling,” but the pitch is that we’ll “better understand Vaas’ past, personal demons, and motivations.”

I know people love Vaas — and there was a lot of speculation about his potential role in the main Far Cry 6 story — but honestly, I’ve always preferred Pagan Min’s care-free brand of villainy ever since he hit the scene. He deserved more runway.

As for the mystical “playable villain” premise, I hope that the AI is tuned enough to put up a good fight in Vaas: Insanity — and that the format doesn’t wear thin in the other packs.

The Far Cry 6 Season Pass is a whopping $40 and also includes Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Classic Edition, which I know some of you have wanted to revisit (but probably not like this).
