Set Uplay to ‘offline’ mode before booting!
[Update: Ubisoft says it has now gotten the servers back and you can play. Also, some people are responding to that by thanking Ubisoft. Don’t do that. You just paid for that friggin’ game, and you’re owed a working one. They need to thank YOU for being patient, you don’t thank THEM for doing their f*cking job.]
What’s better than a publisher forcing a proprietary service into a game? A publisher forcing a proprietary service into a game that screws everything up. Reports are coming in that Ubisoft’s mandatory Uplay service isn’t providing much of a service, and users can’t get online.
Far Cry 3 is available in Europe and the United Kingdom right now, but the PC servers are going down now the general public is on the loose. Ubisoft has Tweeted an apology, but it’s hardly recompense for a problem that only exists because the publisher contrived a situation in which such a problem could occur.
These issues are reportedly affecting the single-player aspect, with solo play unavailable while the servers are dead. Reddit has found a way to work around the worst of the server issues with a simple fix — setting Uplay to “offline” mode before booting up the game. It’s a shame this has happened, since Far Cry 3 is actually pretty great.
So, Uplay currently needs to be kicked offline in order to play the game that needs Uplay to be played. GREAT JOB, UBISOFT! These ridiculous bloody services serve nothing but the narcissism of the publisher.
