[Update: Massively OP is reporting that Marvel Heroes will be coming to an end far sooner than originally reported.  An ex-employee of Marvel Heroes developer Gazillion told Massively that he was terminated as of today and that Gazillion as a whole is being shut down.

He also claims that Marvel Heroes will end this coming Friday, November 24, 2017 not December 31, 2017, as Gazillion initially stated. Understandably Massively’s source has asked to remain anonymous so take all of this with a grain of salt for now.]

[Update: Gazillion put out an official statement that Marvel Heroes will be shutting down on December 31, 2017. They’ll be removing the option to pay for content as soon as possible. Following that, all players will have access to all of the game’s content for free until December 31. You can read the whole statement on their Facebook page.]

Today, Marvel made the announcement that they are severing ties with Gazillion Entertainment, the publisher for their Diablo-style online game Marvel Heroes

A Marvel representative made the announcement via an email:

“We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.”

The community surrounding Marvel Heroes had some idea that the game was in trouble. Gazillion Entertainment reportedly missed four weekly community updates, as well as the release of the Gladiator Thor pack, which was intended as a movie tie-in for Thor Ragnarok.

It looks like comic-book MMO title may have had problems from the start. Gazillion employees confirmed to Kotaku that there were three rounds of layoffs within the game’s first year. Marvel Heroes originally launched on PC back in 2013. The game only arrived on consoles in June of this year.
