Trion Worlds, the minds behind the recent MMORPG prodigy, Rift, have long been feverishly working on their next behemoth, End of Nations, to rock the massively multiplayer world. They are certainly on their way to rock things as End of Nations will be served up free of cost and with extra gravy on top. Yes, straight from the mouths of the Trion’s own Ryan Peters and Dave Luehmann, End of Nation will from now and forever be, Free-to-Play.

As a western gamer, some of you may cringe at the thought of your next MMO hitching a ride on the F2P trend. With cash shops abound and all of us having felt, at one time or another, the sting of the pay to win model, why shouldn’t you be worried? Well, having been personally assured during my interview with Trion, all present and future content available in the game besides luxury type items (such as cosmetic unit customization) will be accessible and obtainable through purely in game means. For those of you who absolutely must have the single most pimped out game cave on the block, a Collector’s Edition will be available at retail with all sorts of bling to turn your desk into the battlefield of tomorrow.

Trion hopes to craft a masterwork of both the RTS and MMO genres with End of Nations. With innovations such as this and the promise of a truly persistent and expansive RTS, they just might pull it off. I’ll have more from my interview with Trion later today. Until then, what are your thoughts about Trion going Free-to-Play?
