Treyarch focusing on CoD 2024, not working on MW3 Zombies

Treyarch's focus is now on the rumored Black Ops Gulf War.

Treyarch have officially stopped working on Modern Warfare 3‘s Zombies mode, with their focus moving to the 2024 Call of Duty release, believed to be titled Black Ops Gulf War.

Zombies has long been associated with Treyarch, as they were the first developer to bring it to CoD all the way back in 2008 with World at War. The team have continued developing the mode throughout their releases, but changed convention in 2023 when they worked on Zombies for Infinity Ward’s release.

That has now come to an end, however, with CharlieIntel reporting that Treyarch confirmed their team has “shifted focus to something exciting on the horizon,” and were no longer working on MW3 Zombies.

Of course, while Treyarch didn’t come out and say it, everyone knows what all their resources are being pushed in to. Activision have already confirmed that Treyarch are the developers behind 2024’s installment of the series, which rumors have claimed will be Black Ops Gulf War for months.

The time of this would make perfect sense, as with MW3 season three now live, they can hand over the reigns to Sledgehammer and let them finish up the mode based on the groundwork they set. On top of that, we’re starting to get into the summer months, which is typically when hype around the new CoD game starts to ramp up. Based on previous release cycles, we’ll get a reveal early in the summer, a multiplayer beta later in the summer, and then the full release in the Autumn. This obviously requires a lot of work, so it’s no surprise that Treyarch now want all hands on deck for Black Ops Gulf War.

Hopefully we won’t have too long to wait until we find out what Treyarch have been cooking up, with rumors suggesting that we could get our first taste of Black Ops Gulf War at the Xbox Games Showcase in June.
