ToeJam & Earl’s crowd-funded sequel has been delayed until 2018. Humanature Studios made the announcement on its Kickstarter page, the game had originally been targeting a 2017 release.

ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove made its initial Kickstarter pitch way back in 2015. The successor to the Genesis classic promised to be the ultimate sequel to the original 1991 title and raised $508,637, the original goal was $400,000.

Studio founder Greg Johnson stated that they needed to push development into 2018, but that the team was working their butts off to deliver an awesome game. While I’m sure any delay is a bummer for fans and backers, it’s usually best not to rush a game’s development.

There’s no mention of a release window yet, but Johnson promises to deliver updates via Kickstarter as any news is made available.
