Streets of Rage 4 paved the way for TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge

The clock’s ticking, dude

Brawler fans are still waiting on tenterhooks for a release date for Tribute Games’ upcoming slugger TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. In order to keep that hype engine rolling, publisher Dotemu has released the first in what appears to be a series of “Behind the Scenes” videos, looking at the ongoing development of the Foot Clan stompin’ adventure.

The video sees Dotemu CEO Cyrille Imbert and Tribute Games Co-Founder Jean-Francois Major discuss the conceptual days of Shredder’s Revenge, with the duo recounting their personal memories of Konami’s legendary TMNT arcade brawlers, as well as Eastman and Laird’s immortal comic book and TV shows. We also hear how Dotemu’s work on the fantastic Streets of Rage 4 helped pave the way for the company to approach Nickelodeon with the idea of a brand new TMNT beat-’em-up.

Due to the strange timeless nature of the modern calendar, it feels like three years since Shredder’s Revenge was originally announced. While the wait for a release date has made a lot of fans pretty antsy, one has to remember that SoR 4 was in development for years, but, ultimately, resulted in Dotemu delivering an absolutely stellar title, one of the best beat-’em-ups ever, in fact. I’m sure that this wait will be worth it.

Be sure to check out the video for some awesome looking four-player co-op, featuring the heroes in a half shell, along with sensei Master Splinter and Channel 6 news reporter April O’Neil, as they lay waste to an army of Foot Clan, those pesky Mouser androids, and even rhino roustabout Rocksteady. It’s looking pretty dang fab thus far, and I can’t wait to check out the finished title in action.

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is currently in development for PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It will launch at some point later in 2022.
