A sexy recap of all the things you people do

Recommended Videos

[Every month or so, we on the Dtoid Community Team throw together a round-up of everything happening in and around the community! We’ll scour the C Blogs and Forums for awesome posts, recap our latest community playdates, highlight community podcasts, and give you the low-down on any NARPs you may have missed.]

It’s winter here in the mighty USofA, and if you’re like me, anything below 40 degrees means you’re staying the hell indoors. Thankfully, the Destructoid community is here to keep me company!

Dtoid had a wonderfully active month in the C Blogs, Forums, “real world”, and on the front page, so let’s take a look at everything you’ve been up to!

COMMUNITY BLOGS
by Mr Andy Dixon, US Community Manager

Nine C Blogs received the front-page treatment since we last spoke! Between Bory Borham’s in-depth analyses of the newest Metal Gear Solid trailers to ChillyBilly’s story of compulsive collecting gone bad to TriplZer0’s five stages of backlog grief to Cutie Honey’s unique recap of the games he played in 2012, the sheer variety of the things you wonderful people are coming up with never ceases to amaze me. Without a doubt my favorite blog of the year had to be the CblogRecaps crew’s 2012 highlight reel, though. If you haven’t checked out this compilation of almost every quality blog written in 2012, you’re missing out!

And speaking of missing out, if you’re not up-to-date with all of our faptastic community podcasts… well, what the hell is wrong with you?! Check out all the aural badassness contained within these pages:

Awesome, right? Go give them a listen if you know what’s good for ya!

Dtoid’s Artists Wanted and Bloggers Wanted have both enjoyed an incredible turnout for their latest assignments, too. Dozens of you shared your favorite videogame moments of 2012 with us, and nine of you bared your souls for our “self portrait” art assignment. New editions of both are coming soon!

And that’s it for the C Blogs! Thanks for all your hard work, everyone!

FORUMS, WE HAVE THEM
by Aaron “Mxy” Yost and Joanna “Zodiac Eclipse” Mueller, Forum Admins

It’s a new year, and that means brand new lists of stuff Dtoiders consumed! In 2012, Dtoiders completed a total of 2,523 games. Digtastik has already started up the 2013 Completed Games thread, so get to listing! Remember, if you finish 25 or more games in a single year there’s a nifty badge in it for you! For those interested in listing other forms of media, Tarvu’s got you covered with the 2013 Completed Films, Books, and Television Shows thread.

The Forums version of Secret Santa has finished up! If you’d like to see what people got check out the Seacrest Santa 2012 thread.

Jon Bloodspray wants to know what your New Year’s resolutions are. Mine are top secret, so then nobody else can give me shit when I fail them.

The Werewolf games on the Forums could use some more players, whether you’re a veteran or a noob. Check out the thread for info on how to play or to look back at previous games!

MAGFest XI happened at the beginning of January! This was the first gaming con I have been able to attend, and it was an absolute blast getting to meet you guys! Changston deserves big props for taking the lead on organizing things this year. The next major US event is PAX East 2013 from March 22nd to 24th, and N7 has a thread up if you’re planning on going!

Finally, don’t forget that planning for Friday Night Fights starts in the Forums! If you’re interested in hosting or joining a game with other Dtoiders, look for the weekly threads for the platform you prefer and jump on in!

COMMUNITY PLAYDATES
by Spencer Hayes, Community Master

So as it sits I’d like to take this chance to re-educate everyone how Friday Night Fights work. “But Spencer” you might say, “didn’t M. Randy Dixon just post an awesome guide a few days ago?” Shut up, sometimes it’s best to reiterate things in rhyme. Let’s do that:

There once was a website so fair
Destructoid, with robots on-air
They started a fight
On one special night
In which every member was there

The venues were non-exclusive
And the times were all inclusive
They did it up right
With no end in sight
Now we have fun everywhere

Alright, that fell apart but you guys get the idea. Go play games with your fellow community members! It’s good for you.

NARPS
by Conor Elsea, Community Monster

As Mxy and Jo just mentioned, MAGFest happened!! Some other things too… but mostly MAGFest! I wasn’t able to attend, but I was tweeted at with pictures of crotches, so I’m guessing it was one hell of a party. If you went, you should share your stories in the comments!

Changston and TheTino (that right, Tino?) put together a NARP in central Jersey, but as of now, there’s no Cblog and no pictures. These classy gents know a thing or two about NARPing, so it’s a safe bet everyone had a great time.

Start planning your spring and summer NARPs now people! Get out of them emailers and into the forums and cblogs to get as much exposure as possible. Let me know if you ever want help or suggestions! Andy and I may even be working on something for this summer, so stay tuned!

DTOID EUROPE
by Beccy Caine, European Community Manager

Last month marked Dtoid UK’s annual DecNARP, from which I was sadly absent due to my being in the line of duty in the hospitality industry during the festive period. Woe. Luckily community members JJMcCallum, iceblight and TheToiletDuck were there to chronicle the weekend and they have a lovely write up over here. For an idea of what they got up to, here’s a summary from JJMcCallum:

Wooden ties, enough alcohol to intoxicate a small village, five kilograms of meat, a roast dinner, Power Rangers, hijacking of hashtags and the little hatted hobbit who just couldn’t stand no more.

So there you have it. Head on over and give it a read! For the newbies amongst us or anybody in need of a reminder, planning for events such as this one happens in our forum thread or the Google Groups mailer. Come and say hi!

And that’s it for this edition! Got any ideas for making this feature better? Please sound off in the comments!

Until next time! <3
