Much to our delight, From Software and Namco Bandai announced Dark Souls II for Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3. (Sorry, Wii U.) Despite having only some assorted quotes, a CG trailer, and prior experience with the Souls games to go on, there’s been much discussion about the sequel. What, exactly, do you want from Dark Souls II?

Ahead of its next issue due out later this month, Edge has quoted From Software director Tomohiro Shibuya as saying “I personally am the sort of person who likes to be more direct than subtle. [Dark Souls II] will be more straightforward and more understandable.” While the full context isn’t clear yet (I personally think people are reading into this too much), the quote does highlight a dilemma: Can the series grow while staying true to its roots? What, if anything, needs to change? Or is it simply impossible to please all parties?

Some of my favorite games of this console generation have seemingly been built with wikis in mind — presenting an unwillingness to hold your hand, sometimes to the extreme — and Dark Souls is no exception. But is there a difference between being vague (while still providing clues — see: the story) and being needlessly obtuse (see: item upgrades)? And, finally, what are you hoping for with the level design: a hub, or another interconnected world? Let us know!
