Go to Texas, make an MMO

It looks like The Old Republic developer BioWare Austin is working on an entirely new IP with MMO elements.

In a job listing, BioWare Austin says it is looking for a Senior Lead Server Engineer who has experience in “designing distributed simulation systems, particularly in an MMO or similar online context.” In other words, it wants someone who knows how to make the MMO bit of MMORPG.

The listing claims the work is for a “new, unannounced BioWare IP.” Seeing as BioWare Austin’s only other game is Star Wars: The Old Republic, is this a sign that it’s now getting ready for life after the Force?

If so, that will be interesting. I wonder how BioWare will handle an MMO that isn’t constrained by it being part of an already existing universe. It’ll also be cool to see whether it is able to improve on the underwhelming MMO functionality of The Old Republic while maintaining the engaging solo play it had.

So, World of Dragon Age coming in 2018? With the Warlords of Iron Bull’s Meaty Manflesh expansion in 2020? I’m sold.
