Developer Eremite Games has officially announced Against the Storm‘s first DLC, The Keepers of the Stone. This DLC adds a new amphibian race to the title, The Frogs, and launches alongside the game’s 1.4 update on September 26, 2024.
Against the Storm‘s Frog race join the fray to help fight against the Blightstorm that resets most of the progress you make in your runs before it closes in. The Frogs, as you’d expect, love the rain, which is perfect for this setting in which every race just wants to push back against the bad weather. While their affinity with water makes them an easy-to-please race, it’s their stone masonry that’ll make you want to get them into your cities and become an active part of them that should help you combat the horrors of the world a little better.
Release The Frogs
Frogs are just the beginning for Against the Storm‘s upcoming content, too. The DLC grants you access to this new race, but the 1.4 update also introduces a tonne of new features that will add more depth to the game and require strategy shake-ups for how you build and try to survive.
Included in the 1.4 update is a new fishing system, something I’m particularly excited about as a big fishing video game fan, new resources, an increased level cap, and more buildings. The additional resources will likely play into the new buildings you get to place and help your city thrive with, while that higher level cap allows for much more progression and a reason to keep coming back to play again and again.
What I want to know is how the Frogs get on with some of the other races in the game. Keeping your citizens happy is a core part of building any city, and in Against the Storm, you can lose people if you don’t work to make them feel welcome. I hope they’re a bit more like the Lizards in the game, who can put up with being pretty miserable while you sort things out in the background.
The level system in Against the Storm is how players earn meaningful upgrades between Blightstorm wipes. Early on in a run, your cities will be wiped out every time the Blightstorm closes in. As you gain levels, though, the upgrades you unlock can help some of them survive, provide new races, add new buildings, and so much more.
Of course, the update comes with a slew of bug fixes, tweaks, and balance changes too. I don’t know much about these at the time of writing, but the developer will more than likely post the patch notes to the game’s Steam page, which is also where you’ll be able to purchase the DLC from.
