Updated: We last updated our The Forge pickaxe tier list on December 3, 2025.
Pickaxes are the most essential tool in The Forge. You use them to mine ores, which can then be forged into various types of weapons and armor. Now, even though more expensive pickaxes are better than the rest, there are only a few worth buying. With that in mind, we prepared the following The Forge pickaxe tier list to help you save your hard-earned gold and buy only the best pickaxes in each area.
The Forge Pickaxe Tier List
Tiers Explained
- S-tier: Pickaxes that are viable for mining in end-game areas.
- A-tier: Decent pickaxes that can be used while grinding for some of the S-tier options.
- B-tier: Pickaxes that are good for grinding early on.
- C-tier: These should generally be avoided as they are not worth the little amount of gold you have to pay to get them.
In the tier list above, we ranked every pickaxe in The Forge based on how good they are for general mining in the late-game. As expected, the most expensive pickaxes in the game, such as Demonic, Arcane, and Lightite, are currently the best. Magma Pickaxe is good, but it’s just slightly worse overall than the S-tier pickaxes, which is why we put it in A-tier.
Recommended Pickaxe Progression
At the beginning, try to save up for the Stonewake’s Pickaxe because it has a very large hitbox, making it great for farming in the Stonewake’s Cross. Mining in the Forgotten Kingdom is a bit more complex. We recommend buying either the Cobalt or Titanium pickaxe early on to mine Basalt Core nodes. Then, save up until you can purchase the Mythril Pickaxe, which will allow you to mine Basalt Veins as well. Alternatively, you can skip the Mythril Pickaxe and grind for either the Lightite or Arcane pickaxes instead, as you will want to stick with either of the two until you finally obtain the Demonic Pickaxe.

How to Apply Runes and Buffs to Pickaxes in The Forge
To boost your overall mining efficiency in The Forge, you can apply Runes to your pickaxe that boost its mine power, luck boost, mining speed, and ore drop amounts. Runes work as permanent bonuses to your pickaxe stats, and it can be very expensive to apply or remove them. Another way to buff your mining performance is to use potions and totems. Potions can be bought with gold coins at Potion Shops in every area, while totems can be obtained from codes and the in-game shop for Robux.
That does it for our The Forge Pickaxe tier list and progression guide. Let us know in the comments below which pickaxe you think is the best and why. The Forge Pickaxe FAQs
No, pickaxes can’t be enhanced, but you can apply runes to them.
The best pickaxes in The Forge are Demonic Pickaxe, Arcane Pickaxe, and Lightite Pickaxe. Great early-game picks are Stonewake’s and Titanium pickaxes.
In general, it is worth selling your old pickaxe. However, we recommend keeping all S-tier pickaxes in your inventory, as they are equally good.
