AI could be used to improve NPCs.

Artificial intelligence has found its way into many industries, including gaming, and Take-Two is considering how it can leverage the technology.

At the Paley International Council Summit on November 7, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed his views on AI and its impact on gaming. He has a mostly positive outlook, as Inverse reports, and he imagines how generative AI can be used to improve NPCs.

If implemented correctly, it could give more variety to NPC dialogue. Zelnick argues that currently, scripted NPC dialogue can be quite boring, though with generative AI, “you could imagine all the NPCs becoming really interesting and fun.” The CEO believes that AI could be better than current solutions, though he is not so sure that it will be faster and cheaper.

He does not mention much about Grand Theft Auto 6, which has generated quite a bit of excitement this week with the announcement of an incoming trailer. Though he does confirm that the next game in the franchise is in development, he doesn’t reveal additional information except that more news will come from Rockstar. We should get more information in December, which is when the trailer is due to drop.

Take-Two’s latest quarterly earnings report reveals that Rockstar’s franchises are still going strong, with Red Dead Redemption 2 selling over 57 million and GTA 5 selling a stellar 190 million units.
