As part of the PlayStation State of Play stream, Pocketpair announced that Palworld’s release date is right now! Or today! I checked, it’s not up at this exact moment.
Palworld is that Pokemon with guns game. It’s an open-world survival title where you cut down trees and craft stuff. Nintendo is suing its developers for patent infringement. You know the one, right? It sold a kajillion copies because people can’t get enough of cutting down trees to craft an axe.
The PlayStation release was teased, but unless I’m not locked in, I don’t think we knew it was going to be released today. So that’s pretty cool if you haven’t played it elsewhere.
I don’t know if I made this clear, but I didn’t really dig Palworld. It had nothing to do with its astounding dearth of creativity but rather that, behind its creature enslavement and firepower, it’s a rather boilerplate open-world survival games. Those are fun, in moderation. Their micro progression is insidiously addictive by design, and when you get to the bottom of one, you realize you’ve been eating cotton candy for the past 20 hours: sweet and unsubstantial.
Palworld is available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and now PS5.
