Children are our future

Okay, I have to say, Catacomb Kids is such a great title. This is a roguelike platformer for those of us still eager to eat these games up, one in which children venture into the fortress of an ancient sorceress who was locked away some 500 years prior. She’s essentially legend at this point, but all manner of creatures have made these catacombs their home.

“The goal is to make a game that is streamlined but not ‘simple’; a system where basic elements interact to create complex outcomes and stories,” writes developer FourbitFriday, who has worked as a pixel artist and animator on games like Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion and Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don’t Know. Up until now, this has been a spare-time project.

Catacomb Kids‘ core is there, but eight months (and $20,000) of full-time development will help “transform it from a neat little distraction into a proper and finished game.” The Kickstarter will also contribute to a full soundtrack and audio design by Stevie Hryciw. There’s not a whole lot to this pitch, I’ll admit, but I do like what’s here and that seems like a reasonable budget.
