The amount of hype for Starfield easily rivals the biggest games of this year, which is really saying something. In fact, the anticipation is so enormous that Bethesda’s upcoming sci-fi RPG is already topping the Steam charts.
If you head over to the website, you’ll see that – at the time of writing – Starfield is currently at the number two spot on Steam’s “Top Sellers” list. The only thing beating it is Valve’s own Steam Deck device, which means the upcoming sci-fi RPG is number one in terms of actual games.
Anybody who’s even skimmed video game news lately could probably expect this development. Microsoft even reduced and then removed the Game Pass trial just ahead of the game’s release, presumably to prevent eager people trying to play it on the cheap.
How it is at the top when it’s not even out yet?
Some may wonder how an unreleased game can dominate a chart that measures sales. However, it’s likely that Steam is taking into account pre-orders.
A quick look over on SteamDB shows that Starfield has approximately 342,000 owners and is the number one wishlisted game. To clarify, the information on the number of owners/players comes from PlayTracker, which does clarify that this insight is “90% certain that estimates for this game are accurate within a 27% interval”.
In any case, Bethesda’s upcoming title will inevitably continue to be a hot topic of discussion in the foreseeable future. We’re still a week away from its release, so get used to seeing Starfield absolutely everywhere soon.
Starfield is coming to PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 6. It’ll also be available on Game Pass.
