Square Enix has added a fascinating new product to their official online store: Two Kingdom Hearts 2-themed skateboard decks that will let fans transform their skateboards into exact replicas of the ones Roxas and Sora used in the original game.
The boards feature illustrations of Roxas and Sora based on official concept art by Tetsuya Nomura on one side, and the other dons detailed designs derived from the skateboards each character could ride on in Kingdom Hearts 2. Roxas’ is white with a black pattern, while Sora’s is the opposite.
At the time of writing, you can only purchase these two skateboard decks through Square Enix’s Japanese store. According to the official publication, they are both made of Canadian maple, are approximately 200mm wide and 800mm tall, and are available for 29,700 yen each (tax included), which amounts to around 203 US dollars. Square Enix is already accepting reservations, as they will release these decks on January 11, 2025.
Skateboarding was a big part of Kingdom Hearts 2
In 2005’s Kingdom Hearts 2, players controlling Roxas or Sora could ride on skateboards scattered around several locations to quickly traverse the game’s large worlds. These were an efficient method of transportation and also fit perfectly with the rampant skateboarding culture of the early 2000s. While more recent titles, like Dream Drop Distance and Kingdom Hearts 3, have ditched these boards in favor of other movement mechanics, like Flowmotion, fans still have a soft spot for these skateboards and would love to see this mechanic come back in future entries. No wonder the dedicated Kingdom Hearts fan base reacted to the announcement of these real-life replicas with a lot of excitement.
