Sup Holmes every Sunday at 4pm EST!
[Sup Holmes is a weekly talk show for people that make great videogames. It airs live every Sunday at 4pm EST on YouTube, and can be found in Podcast form on Libsyn and iTunes.]
Last Thursday, we were happy to produce a special weekday episode of Sup Holmes with the one and only John Vignocchi. After getting his start in the enthusiast gaming press as a teenager, John moved on to Midway where he worked on various titles, including the NBA Jam series, before moving to Disney where he currently presides as the VP of Production for Disney Infinity series.
We talked with John about his passion for his work, how th eart style of the Inifnity series manages to work for live action and animated characters. Johnny Depp’s approval process, our chances of seeing Studio Ghibli, Disney Afternoon, or Mortal Kombat characters in future infinity releases, and a lot more. We also learned a little bit about the upcoming film Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens, which was a fun surprise. John has had the opportunity to read the script and meet with the films actors, as he’s been tasked to adapt the movie’s premise into the next iteration of Disney Infinity. His face nearly exploded with joy in discussing the film, but he’s a pretty darn joyful guy at baseline, so take that for what it’s worth.
We were also lucky to have Ducktales: Remastered and Mighty Switch Force Academy director Austin Ivansmith on the prior episode of the show. Austin’s also working on the highly anticipated Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, so we ended up splitting our time between focus on that game, the aftermath of developing Ducktales, his solo work on games like Super Secret Service, and general discussion of the terrors and touchdowns that come with being a game developer in the year 2015. It was a lot of fun.
Thanks again to John and Austin for hanging out with us, and be sure to tune in live today at 4pm EST when we welcome Ed and Mike from Pencil Test Studios (Armikrog) to the program.
