Trying to smack injustice in the face

Within the past year or so, there’s been a new crop of social games that, one might say, have a conscience. Their goal isn’t so much taking your money as it is encouraging you to be an organ donor or convincing you to give money to charity. Half the Sky Movement: The Game is the latest one in that line. The rather oddly named game is based on the “Half the Sky” movement, which seeks to educate and raise awareness for women’s issues around the world.

I’ve played a bit of the game, and I have to say I like it a fair bit. I mean, it’s no Journey, but in terms of trying to use its design and mechanics to accomplish something important like increasing donations to organizations that help distribute vaccines or non-profits that fight sex trafficking, it’s pretty awesome.

It’s free, obviously, so if you have the time it’s definitely worth a quick look. I can’t ever think of any instance where a little compassion for others wasn’t worth it. Except Kefka. He doesn’t deserve anything, ever.
