SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash drops onto Switch outta nowhere

Beloved cult card title returns

In a fantastic piece of surprise news, SNK has, out of nowhere, shadow dropped a Nintendo Switch port of its Neo Geo Pocket Color trading card game SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters Clash. The colorful collectible game is available to download right now from the eShop, priced at just $7.99.

Originally released in 1999 for SNK’s misunderstood and ill-fated handheld console, SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash features a literal who’s who of characters from franchises such as The King of Fighters, Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Resident Evil, Metal Slug, Captain Commando, The Last Blade, Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts, and many more. Players battle it out in fun card-based battles, armed with a whopping deck of 300 total cards, each sporting wonderful pixel artwork of all your SNK and Capcom favorites.

Both Japanese and English editions of the game are included but players cannot mix and match cards between the two different language editions. Players will hold separate save files for the SNK and Capcom decks, and will have the ability to battle/trade both brands against one another. At first glance, this appears to be something of a fairly vanilla ROM rip, so one shouldn’t expect any additional features. Fans can only hope that this surprise release will lead to the eventual arrival of the 2001 Japanese-only expansion Card Fighters 2: Expand Edition.
