SNK and Ignition launch KOF XII DOT Graphics Gallery

If you’re an SNK fan, you’re probably more than a little excited for the upcoming release of King of Fighters XII. Trust me, I’ve spent the better part of this afternoon playing it, and you’ve got reason to be. Word is, some stores have been letting it go a few days early, but if you’re not among the fortunate few who already have their hands on it, SNK Playmore and Ignition Entertainment have just launched a little something to help keep your appetite under control in the meantime.

The DOT Graphics Gallery is part of a new interactive website that showcases some of the character art and animation you’ll be seeing in King of Fighters XII. It’s got a collection of stage backgrounds that can be viewed and zoomed in on, as well as a gallery dedicated to the game’s 20 characters.

The character gallery lets you view each fighter’s sprite, and run a few of the attack animations to get a better look at what you’ll be dealing with. You can watch the animation play out as it appears in the game, or view it a frame at a time to see every detail. There’s also a rundown of how the sprites are created, and a page that explains how SNK is bringing pixel art into the 21st century with some new methods.

It’s a very cool site if you dig pixel art, regardless of whether you enjoy the King of Fighters series. But if you do enjoy KOF, Destructoid is the place to be, as you can win a copy of the game through our Twitter party, and I’ll have a full review of the game coming up in a few days.
