Left 4 Big, Burly Vampires

I quite like Nosgoth. I know it’s hated by some long-time Legacy of Kain fans, but I’ve had fun with it. It’s basically a free-to-play, early access version of Left 4 Dead’s Versus mode, but with vampires. Technically I’d say it’s more like Dead Space 2’s multiplayer, but nobody played that so the comparison is kind of useless.

Anyway, Square Enix and Psyonix have released a new map for the game, called Silenced Cathedral. The trailer shows a lot of things which probably aren’t cathedrals, and that music is very loud, but hey, it’s a new map!

Psyonix has also released test servers for a new 5v5 deathmatch mode. I imagine those two extra players will speed things up a bit, as finding and getting close to the humans while playing as the vampires can be drawn out at times.

Development on Nosgoth has been chugging along at a steady pace. It released in open beta last January, and while major content updates have been a bit thin on the ground, tweaks and balance patches have been coming fairly regularly. Plus the community is still pretty active, so I’ve never had much trouble finding a match.

Hopefully, Silenced Cathedral is a sign that Psyonix is now working on boosting the meager amount of content Nosgoth offers. I’d be more than happy to go back to it once a few new maps have been added!

If you’re interested, Psyonix has a nice piece on their website about how they designed Silenced Cathedral. Nosgoth is free-to-play, and the new map is available now.
