Developer reconsidering sequel concepts

It’s been a good 18 months since the original announcement of Senran Kagura 7EVEN, the latest mainline release in the cheesecake ninja series of video games. Since then, developer Marvelous has released details and renders, but we are yet to see the game in a fully-formed build.

Well, according to this interview held between Game Talk and Honey Parade President Kenichiro Takaki, it seems that 7EVEN may have bigger problems to deal with. In the interview, Takaki expresses that 7EVEN simply would not pass Sony’s recently tightened rulings on sexual content. As such, the developer is having to reconsider various conceptual decisions.

“It seems the original idea we had imagined would be impossible to release”, Takaki said in the interview. “So we’re redoing, or rather reconsidering, everything about the game”. Takaki would later speak openly about restrictions that were being placed on PlayStation content, candidly admitting “Right now, I’m really worried about what to do”.

Of course, said rulings do not currently apply on other platforms, such as Nintendo Switch (of all places) and PC. Takaki has not ruled out the possibility of abandoning the Sony platform going forward, concentrating on other markets, though did note that he felt similar restrictions would eventually be adopted by other platforms.

As for Senran Kagura 7EVEN, it sounds like its eventual release is still completely up in the air for now.
