Tails VTuber

Sega turned Tails into a VTuber, like Sonic before him

Our little Tails is all grown up

At this point of late-stage-capitalism internet, nothing surprises me anymore. When I saw that Sega had turned precious little Tails into a Vtuber I was like, “of course they did.” There’s also the fact that Sonic got the same treatment last year, so we really should have seen this one coming. He’s going to have his own show called TailsTube, and while all we know so far is that the first episode is dropping sometime next week, there is a teaser up on the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter to give us a small taste of what we’re in for.

He tells us that he’ll be answering some frequently asked questions, and will “maybe even bring on some special guests on the show,” and if I know anything, that means he totally will have special guests on. The caption on the announcement tweet also says that TailsTube will be “fun and informative.” What he’s informing us on, I’m not entirely sure, but at least it will be conveyed to us in a charming, adorable way, as is expected of Tails, even if I do feel that VTubing treads a bit too far into the uncanny valley for my liking.

This news comes just in time for some big releases that are on the horizon from the Sonic brand — the second Sonic the Hedgehog movie hits theaters on April 8, where Tails will be making his debut in that version of the Sonic universe.

The other big release is the next main entry in the Sonic video game series, Sonic Frontiers, and is excepted to drop sometime in late 2022. The game will feature an open world map with multiple biomes that the player can explore, and will have a story written by comic book writer Ian Flynn, who is a veteran of the Sonic franchise.

Sounds like Sonic fans have a lot of great stuff to look forward to.
