Time for one last run
Just over a year after leaving early access and fully releasing, Rogue Legacy 2 has received its final major update on consoles. The Swan Song update is now live on Nintendo Switch and Xbox platforms, about a month after the same content was made available for PC players via Steam.
The free and rather meaty new download features three new game modes, four new subclasses, and over 100 tweaks and bugfixes. Though this is expected to be the final content drop, Cellar Door Games intends to continue providing bugfixes and stability patches as needed.
Offering a more traditional roguelike experience
One of the new game modes, True Rogue, seeks to challenge those who mastered the game by creating a traditional roguelike and entirely skill-based experience. In this mode, players have just one life and play as a randomly chosen class with the Contrarian trait. You start in a random biome and upon beating the boss will teleport to a new random biome. The biomes themselves are smaller and have more Relic Rooms and Curio Shoppes. Runs in this mode are short and sweet and designed for a single-sitting.
Additionally, three new Fabled Weapons have been added to this update. The three weapons — Mjolnir, a hand puppet, and a surfboard — assure each class now has one Fabled Weapon in the Soul Shop.
Another big feature is the introduction of Dreams. Dreams are unique experiences similar to Scar Challenges that allow you to play out the fantasies of the most iconic characters in the game. It’s important to note, however, that Dreams do not count towards earning certain achievements.
Finally, players now the ability to add custom localizations as well as an improved system for speed runners. You will now be able to create custom seeds specifically for speedrunning, and there are ways to validate them.
Now that Rogue Legacy 2 is complete we can once again start asking for some sort of Playstation release, right?
