‘More realistic’
Don’t adjust your (hot tub) time machine. You haven’t traveled back to 2010; it just feels like it.
According to a report from Kotaku UK, Activision has a new Guitar Hero title in the works. It’s said to be announced at E3, and released later this year. It’s unclear which of Activision’s studios are heading development, but it’s most likely a west coast team. If this rumor proves true, it’ll be the first installment in the Guitar Hero series since 2010’s Warriors of Rock.
This iteration of Guitar Hero will be a stylistic departure of sorts from the look that’s been characteristic of the faux-rock franchise over the years. Kotaku’s two independent sources corroborate that this Guitar Hero — which is coming to PS4 and Xbox One at the very least — will have more realistic visuals, and “authentic” artists and crowds.
Unsurprisingly, it’s said that Activision is also making new instrument peripherals to sell alongside the base game. It’s unknown if these will be a mandatory purchase, or if the peripherals from Guitar Hero titles on legacy consoles will be compatible.
Of course, Kotaku’s report comes on the heels of the wide-spread rumor that Harmonix has another Rock Band game in development. The rhythm genre was unsustainably bloated five years ago. It feels like we might be getting right back to that before new games even release.
