PC users will also get free upgrade patches
Resident Evil is getting next-gen upgrades for three of its big entries. The remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, as well as 7, are all getting free next-gen upgrades later this year.
The three Resident Evil games will have upgrades on PlayStation 5 and both Xbox Series X and S. If you own these games on PS4 or Xbox One, they’ll have a free digital upgrade.

And for those who play on PC, you’ll also get to see the benefits. Upgrade patches for all three will roll out for PC players at no additional cost, alongside the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.
Right now, Capcom is characterizing these as visual enhancements. With how impressive these games, especially the remakes, were in the visual department, this should be a nice upgrade for a future replay.
The Resident Evil remakes seem to be pretty successful so far, so it’s nice to see them get support as we move into a new console generation. Following both RE2 and RE3, it’s been reported that a remake of Resident Evil 4 is also in the works, though we’ve yet to hear any official confirmation of it.
Resident Evil 7 also getting the upgrade nod is nice, too. The shift to first-person horror was a gamble that seemed to pay off, and soon the Baker house will be fully explorable in next-gen fidelity. It will be terrifying, I’m sure.
The next-gen RE upgrades will start rolling out later this year.
