I love the Wii. In fact other than Mr. Holmes, I think I might be the most ardent Wii supporter at Destructoid. My Wii is played just as often as my PS3 and 360 if not more, and not just when friends are over. I am a serious Wii gamer. I tell you all this not because I want to be ridiculed by haters, but because I want you to understand the full impact of me saying that I don’t own Wii MotionPlus. Not a single one, nor a game that works with it. There just aren’t enough games that function with it for me to get it and the ones that are out don’t interest me. I need more.

Reggie to the rescue! Speaking with MTV Multiplayer Reggie Fils-Aimé, President of Nintendo of America, responded to accusations that the waggle add-on was lacking games.

“There’s tremendous support for Wii MotionPlus. First, what it would highlight is that ‘Wii Sports Resort’ continues to sell exceptionally well. In addition to that you’re seeing some fantastic third party support. ‘Red Steel 2’…about to come out. And from a first party perspective we showed ‘Fling Smash.’ There are more titles that are coming, it continues to be a core part of what we do.”

MTV Multiplayer wasn’t buying it though and pointed out that three major franchise games (New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M) all lack the use of MotionPlus. To this Reggie simply replied that Nintendo doesn’t force any type of control on its developers, they just do what works for the game.

Touché, Reggie. Touché.
