The last Hobbit movie was shorter (and less entertaining)
Dota matches have a reputation for becoming grindy slogs, but I’m pretty sure they aren’t supposed to resemble the intractable grind of WWI trench warfare. On Friday a qualifying match between competitive teams Cloud9 and SFZ stretched on for an unbelievable 200 minutes as both teams laid siege to each others Ancients without being able to gain the upper hand, tossing heroes into a seemingly endless meat grinder of suicide charges and frenzied buy-backs.
The long winded match shattered the previous record for the longest competitive Dota 2 match, a comparatively paltry 125 minute long match between Team Dog and 4FC. The sheer length of the game also allowed the crazy over powered heroes to trample over several other records as collected in this Reddit post, including the highest net worth on a Sniper, and the most last hits from a Zeus.
If for some reason you don’t have three hours to waste watching a ridiculous Dota match today, you can check out this infinitely more digestible highlight reel to appreciate the lunacy. My favorite part is the commentator who still manages to get hyped over fruitless skirmishes and meaningless trades throughout the entire ordeal.
