A Japanese retailer has revealed that stupidity isn’t just for folk in the West, with word that the 3G version of the PlayStation Vita is the more popular SKU, at least as far as pre-orders go.
According to retailer/blogger Sinobi, a considerable 65% of PS Vita pre-orders are for the 3G version, compared to 35% for the wi-fi enabled alternative. 82% of all pre-order customers also put down money for an expensive memory stick, with 72% of that number getting the mighty 32GB one. Do these people just have money to burn? Apparently so.
I personally see no lasting applicable use for the 3G-enabled Vita. Due to its battery life and the types of games that typically do well in the handheld arena, I somehow don’t see it being a hub of online gameplay — and even if it did, the best environment for that would be at home, or somewhere else settled near a Wi-Fi source, especially since I wouldn’t trust a 3G connection to keep my Killzone action going.
The Vita 3G just looks like a big money trap to me. Wish I could see what so many Japanese gamers apparently see.
