The Pokémon Company has formally confirmed a location and dates for this year’s Pokémon World Championships, with the event to be held in Hawaii this summer.
The news was dropped in the wake of the Pokémon Europe International Championships, which wrapped up over the weekend. Not much else has been shared, barring a cute piece of art showing Pikachu and other Pokémon scuba diving, but fans now know Pokémon Worlds 2024 will run from August 16—18 at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu. So, you’ll want to start making travel plans ASAP if you wish to attend.
This will be the fourth time Pokémon Worlds has taken place in Hawaii, having previously been held in 2007, 2010, and 2012. The competition has since branched out to other locations in the last 12 years, so local Pokémon fans are bound to be thrilled to see it come back to Hawaii after so long. That said, its previous stints in Hawaii took place in Waikoloa Village whereas the 2024 event is heading for the capital city of Honolulu. As such, anyone going in-person should expect a crowded venue.
While there’ll be no Pokémon Sleep tournament (that was an April Fool’s joke), you can expect to see the usual tournaments for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Pokémon Unite, Pokémon Go, and the trading card game. It’s unlikely the new Pokémon TCG Pocket mobile game will make an appearance considering it lacks an exact release date. Maybe it’ll be included in the 2025 competition after players have become more familiar with it and had time to figure out the meta.
