What Region is Pokemon Scarlet/Violet set in?

We’ve all begun exploring Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, the newest mainline entries in the long-running Game Freak series. Alongside the new people, places, and goals set out for prospective Pokemon Trainers, we have also taken a round trip throughout the new games’ expansive region, Paldea.

Paldea, the locale for all of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s exploration and critter-catching action, plays host to a variety of little monsters to discover. Here’s a top-down view of the whole landmass. Across the entire region we can see lakes, deserts, mountains, and more. A port town resides on the right-hand side, while a large city sits in the center. Also, there’s one big, cloudy region at the center.

There’s a good mix of all kinds of different biomes here, and it’s easy enough to geo-locate some Pokemon of differing types. We certainly aren’t left wanting for environmental variety.

Exploring the open world of Paldea

What’s also different about this Pokemon entry and region is that Scarlet and Violet are open-world games, with three different story threads that players can tackle at their own pace. So, if you wind up catching some strong Fire Pokemon and feel particularly bold, you can head right on over to the Ice Gym and challenge its chilleriffic new Gym Leader, Grusha.

Or maybe you’d rather go check out that aforementioned port town, or head right to the big city. It’s all connected and available, and with the power of your mighty motorcycle Legendary Pokemon mount, the Paldea region of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is yours to explore.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is available now on Nintendo Switch
