Pokémon Go: Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam adventure effects explained

Both charge attacks offer useful buffs outside combat.

Necrozma, the Prism Pokémon, debuted in Pokémon Go in March 2024, and now there are two new Adventure Effects introduced to make use of Necrozma’s altered versions outside of battle as well. Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam are the two new adventure effects added and belong exclusively to Necrozma’s altered versions.

Dusk Mane Necrozma, the fusion between Necrozma and Solgaleo, knows the Sunsteel Strike charged attack in Pokémon Go. Players who fuse Necrozma with Lunala get Dawn Wings Necrozma, who knows the Moongeist Beam charged attack. These attacks can be used outside battle now too, so that players can activate the adventure effect, and reap in the temporary buffs.

Sunsteel Strike adventure effect

Sunsteel Strike adventure effect costs 3,000 Stardust and 3 Necrozma Candy. Once activated, Pokémon that appear during the daytime will start to pop near your location, attracting them for 10 minutes just as Incense does. Moreover, Pokémon that are only possible to evolve during daytime can be evolved at any time of the day when the Sunsteel Strike adventure effect is on.

Here are some of the Pokémon players may encounter using the Sunsteel Strike adventure effect:

  • Alolan Exeggutor
  • Cottonee
  • Helioptile
  • Fomantis
  • Pidgey
  • Solrock
  • Tyrunt
  • Yungoos
  • Rockruff (which can be evolved into Dusk Form Lycanroc)

Attack power

  • Trainer Battles: 135 power
  • Gyms and raids: 230 power

The 10-minute buff can be useful if there are a couple of Pokémon anyone wishes to evolve at night, but if you are out looking for Pokémon candy to farm, the effect duration might not be enough. To avoid the hassle of activating the effect and waiting for it to expire, players can stack up the duration by activating the effect multiple times by using more Stardust and Necrozma candy. However, only a maximum of two hours can be activated at once, but repeat that process to stack it up for a whole day if you wish.

Moreover, it isn’t possible in Pokémon Go to use Sunsteel Strike when other effects such as an Incense, Mystery Box, Daily Adventure Incense, Adventure Effect, or Coin Bag are active.

Currently, it is not possible for players to teach the Sunsteel Strike move to a Dusk Mane Necrozma using a Charged TM or Elite Charged TM. This means that the only way to teach this move to a Dusk Mane Necrozma is by fusing Necrozma and Solgaleo.

Moongeist Beam adventure effect

The Moongeist Beam adventure effect, available for Dawn Wings Necrozma, has the same cost, effect duration, and restrictions as the Sunsteel Strike. Once activated, the Moongeist Beam adventure effect attracts Pokémon to your location that is typically found during nighttime in Pokémon Go.

Here are some of the Pokémon players can find when the Moongeist Beam adventure effect is active:

  • Alolan Rattata
  • Alolan Marowak
  • Amaura
  • Clefairy
  • Galarian Zigzagoon
  • Hoothoot
  • Lunatone
  • Munna
  • Rockruff (which can be evolved into Dusk Form Lycanroc)
