Those in the horror scene will be more than aware of Phasmophobia‘s long-awaited console release. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports of the game launched just a day ago. However, as with so many new releases in this modern gaming era, there are a few teething problems.
In this case, it’s effecting players on the Xbox. A recent post over on Reddit has noted how Phasmophobia crashes when played on the Microsoft console. While this may only be a problem with the trial version, developer Kinetic Games has issued a brief statement on social media.
Posting to X, the studio has acknowledged that there are problems when booting up the trial version on Xbox Series X|S. An additional post says the team has “continued to investigate this issue” and will be sending out a fix as soon as possible. For now, it’s best to keep an eye on any updates.

The console ports have gone hand-in-hand with the game’s recent Halloween “Crimson Eye” patch, which features the Blood Moon event, and some tweaks to the game. This includes – according to the patch notes – optimization improvements, the ability to invite people via your Steam friend’s list, crossplay with the aforementioned PS5 and Xbox releases, plus plenty of fixes.
The console ports of Phasmophobia have felt like a long time coming. The game originally launched for PC back in September 2020 and – perhaps because of the pandemic which saw gaming experience a massive uptick in popularity as billions were confined to their homes – the indie horror game became a massive success.
Kinetic has been promising PlayStation and Xbox versions for some time now, so it feels like a relief to many that they can now get stuck into the ghost hunting phenomenon. So long as the developer keeps an eye on any issues that are plaguing console players.
