Some years ago now, Penny Arcade decided to put their piles of smug money where their snarky mouths were and produce a series of episodic role-playing games in a Lovecraft-meets-noir-detective setting. After two episodes were developed by Hothead Games, the series came to a premature end with the cancellation of the series. The conclusion of the story would be told in a series of written posts over several months, but there would be no more games.

Today, it has been announced that On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness will see its third episode after all. Zeboyd Games, the indie developer behind Cthulhu Saves the World and Breath of Death VII (as well as the organizer of the Xbox Live Indie “Uprising” collaborations) has been tapped to develop the title in the style of a 16-bit RPG.

Neat! I quite liked every game which has been mentioned in the preceding paragraphs and it’s exciting to think about what the two teams can accomplish together. Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness will return with episode three in 2012, with platforms yet to be announced.
